1960s
1970sScoubidou String Black, white and brightly coloured, stretchy pvc string was all the rage for children to make lanyards, keyrings, nobbly animals and bracelets by crafting knots in repeating patterns. Thought to have started in France in the late 50s, early 1960s, the craze spread to the UK. Like many fads it faded away, although there was a revival circa 2005. At the time of writing (2013) the string is still readily available to buy on-line. 1980s 1990s The Sunday Trading Act 1994 made it legal for large shops to trade for up to 6 hours. 2000s
