The Codebreakers' Huts
The Codebreakers' Huts
The Codebreakers' Huts of Bletchley Park:

Constructed from 1940 onwards, the carefully restored huts are now as good as new. The wartime bomb blast walls have also been rebuilt to aid the authenticity of the era.

Overview

Much of the essential work of the Park was carried out by staff working very long hours in wooden huts, using paper and pencil, to deduce the German codes. The infamous huts, 3, 6 and 8, now restored, played a key part in Britain winning the war. As the work of the codebreakers grew, larger, brick and concrete buildings were constructed to house the overflow of information from the huts.

Funding

The Foreign Secretary, William Hague visited the Park on 18th October 2012 to announce Government funding in recognition of 'some of the finest achievements in our nation's history'. BPT responded...

"The Bletchley Park Trust is enormously grateful to the FCO for the contribution of £480,000 to complete the £2.4 million matchfunding element to unlock a further £5 million Heritage Lottery Fund grant. This will allow the Trust to commence the vital restoration of historic codebreaking huts and the creation of a world-class visitor centre and educational exhibition."
